Who (the hell) are we?

Astronomical society ANONYMUS is a non-profit group of citizens with a goal to popularize astronomy and science generally, to connect with similar organizations world-wide, to tutor and care about talented youth and to organize courses, excursions, meetings and astronomy-related public events. It is not what you can call an observatory or something like that, it's just a small group of people interested in amateur astronomy, who wish and can expand their knowledge. We have had many meetings so far, many activities since this group was first gathered.

A small group of people first met in 1994, as an unregistered society. Since then, club has been evolving, gathering new members (especially the youth). Finally in 2001, few of our godfathers decided to registry as a real society. From that point some things have changed. The club wasn't really provided by town finances, but we managed by organizing observations, lot's of activities, all that to increase the popularity of astronomy in Valpovo, and other near cities. Our latest activity was a public observation at the Normann-Prandau castle, 30th of August. Before that we organized "Osjeèko ljeto mladih" in Osijek, promenade near hotel Osijek. That was more of a presentation of our club to the citizens of Osijek. We had our own stand and we were selling Sky maps (Mars, Venus), and space magazines.

That was very successful, because we soon gain new members which previously didn't know about this club and it's activities. Not so long ago, we have been donated a Meade ETX telescope by Space Frontier organization.

In 2005. the Croatian Lottery decided to donate a great sum of money to our club so we were finally able to afford all the necessary equipment required for observing sky objects and educating youngsters and ourselves even more. We bought Celestron C8 (you can find more about it in "Equipment"). We were able to achieve great results and make great photographs of planets.

Astronomy became very popular in our town Valpovo, as our young students went to competitions every year and they've achieved great results, despite our not-so-rich conditions. Guided by their mentors, who aren't teachers but are above 20 years old, students have learned to use well their knowledge.
As I already mentioned, we are a non-profit group, but if you appreciate our work or/and have some extra money, you are more than welcome to donate some.
